We set off to explore Hungary with two white wines from the fabulous shores of Lake Balaton. The Somló and Badacsony wine districts share a common characteristic of volcanic soil, which is reflected in the aromas and flavours of the wines from these two regions. We then enter the world of Hungary’s most widely planted blue grape variety, Kékfrankos. We will first explore this elegant and exciting grape variety through two wines from the Tolna and Szekszárd wine districts, and then examine how it works with world varieties in a blend through a Kékfrankos-based blend, the Szekszárd Bikavér. Finally, from the country’s southernmost wine region, Villány, with its sub-Mediterranean climate, we’ll look at two big-bodied, serious red blends made from the world’s most popular red wine grape varieties.
The pop-up tasting will take place during the Daejeon International Wine EXPO Wine Trade Show.
