Under the brand name Egri Bikavér, only dry red wine with a protected denomination of origin can be marketed. Bikavér is the world-famous red wine of the region, a blend of at least 4 different red base wines, whereas Kékfrankos must be between 30-65%. The base wines have to be matured separately in barrels for at least six months, then further matured in bottles. By law, there are three different quality levels of Egri Bikavér: Classic, Superior and Grand Superior.
